A book about famous clowns
Every good book is interesting in its own way. Its originality is given by the author: his talent, life experience, knowledge of the subject, love for it.
A monograph about the famous clowns Yuri Nikulin and Mikhail Shuidin was written by S. Makarov. After graduating from circus school, he was a clown, and then a comedian-illusionist. So I learned circus art not only from the rows of the amphitheater, but also by performing in the arena.
While working in the circus, Makarov graduated from the Department of theater studies of the state Institute of theater arts named after A.V. Lunacharsky, then a full-time postgraduate course at the Institute of art history, defended his dissertation on the problems of clowning and received a PhD in art history. Continue reading

“Being different” is a heavy burden that falls on the shoulders of people with physical disabilities. Society often does not accept them, it is almost impossible for them to find a job and (especially) arrange a personal life. Their usual fate is to perform in a circus for the amusement of the crowd. Life and death under the big top Irina Asmus: the Tragic story of a clown Toffee from “Abvgdeyka»
One of the most popular children’s TV shows in the USSR was “Avbgdeika”, which was conducted by Tatyana Chernyaeva and clowns Klepa, Levushkin, Yura and Toffee (Irina Asmus). The kids were crazy about her. Natural charm, a flair for the dramatic and incredible ease of Toffee had both children and adults. In 1985, she suddenly disappeared from the program, and a year later it became known about her tragic death during a performance in the circus. Continue reading
