Rules of life of Yuri Nikulin-front-line soldier, actor and clown, who was called “the Great comedian of the world»

He was adored by the whole huge country, and his colleagues could only dream of such popularity as Yuri Nikulin’s. People fell in love with the characters of his roles immediately, and films with Nikulin’s participation became cult. “The Caucasian captive and the New adventures of Shurik”, “the diamond hand”. “Dog Barbos and unusual cross”, “Operation Y” and other adventures of Shurik” – they are still watched with pleasure today. He served the circus for half a century, toured the world and gathered full houses in all countries. And after himself, Yuri Vladimirovich left a rich creative legacy.

Vocational education and training at the Yuri Nikulin was not. When the war ended, and he came to the VGIK exams, the admissions Committee did not find him to be an actor. “You won’t look good on the screen,” they told him. He tried his hand at the theater Department in Gites, but the answer was about the same. Perseverance led Nikulin to the school-Studio of conversational genres at the Moscow circus on Tsvetnoy Boulevard.

As a schoolboy, Yuri Nikulin collected about 1000 jokes. Here are only some later decipher it and could not. The fact is that young Nikulin often wrote down not the whole joke, but only key phrases or words.

In the army, Nikulin had an amusing incident involving anecdotes. He made a bet with a friend on 10 packets of cigarettes, who would tell more jokes. The condition was that if the opponent knows an anecdote, then you should start another one. Anecdotes from Nikulin in the barracks sounded more than 2 hours. His comrades were tired of laughing and recognized him as the winner.

Nikulin’s film debut took place in the Feintzimmer Comedy “Girl with a guitar”, where he got a cameo role as a pyrotechnic. In the story, his pyrotechnist runs into the room with a suitcase, where the Commission looks at the contestants and says: “Comrades, I apologize, comrades! For the festival, you know, I came up with a spectacular thing. People will see-gasp. Amateur fireworks, like a salute.” And although the role was, it would seem, a passing one, Nikulin was seriously preparing for it. The audience immediately drew his attention, and it was not long before Yuri Vladimirovich became a famous and popular actor.

Nikulin refused to star in the Comedy ” the Caucasian captive»

When the script of Gaidai’s cult Comedy “the Caucasian captive” was almost ready, Yuri Nikulin rejected it. He said that many of the scenes were improbable and uninteresting, and refused to be filmed. Director Gaidai had to work hard to persuade him to stay. He allowed Nikulin and Morgunov to make some edits to the script. And Gaidai bought a case of champagne, giving out one bottle to everyone who came up with an interesting story about Shurik.

Representatives of the Oxford encyclopedia of cinema included Nikulin’s name in the list of “Great comedians of the world”, as they considered the Soviet and Russian artist an outstanding comedian.
